Picking a browband colour

With the various varieties of browbands colours available today, it can be tempting to choose based solely on your favourite without considering the horse it will be used on. Red is very popular and has always been a favourite. A few years ago, red, white, and blue combinations gained popularity. This combination looks great because red can sometimes get lost on a chestnut, but the addition of white and blue helps it stand out against the horse.

Bays, especially dark bays, look great in red and gold. In fact, bays can pull off most colors, and greys to some extent as well. I used to really like purple on a grey, although red also works well. Chestnuts can pull off purple, and cornflower blues are also really nice and will stand out. However, red can sometimes get a bit lost. It is advisable to stay away from oranges and pinks on a chestnut.

My favourite brands for browbands remain Pretty Ponies and Showing Selection. There are also a few new options entering the market at lower price points that are strong contenders if you don't want to spend a lot on a browband, especially if you're unsure about keeping that colour long-term. Cornerstone is a brand in this space that I really like.
