Rediscovering in hand showing

Something I've recently learned to enjoy is showing horses in hand. It's not something I liked when I was younger, but I've actually started to appreciate it and respect there's a lot of skill involved. Presenting your horse, making sure they're forward going, the list could continue.

Recently showing in hand had given me an opportunity to get some horses out that aren't quite right under saddle at the moment/coming back from injuries, but are perfectly sound to be trotted up. Getting them out and seeing a show ground is really valuable.

It's also really important for young horses and ponies. I have found that some of the best ponies I've brought on in the past are those that have done the county show circuits in hand because when it comes to being ridden, they've seen it a bit. It makes the experience more relaxed for them when it comes to being under saddle.

There obviously lots of other reasons why the in hand circuit is important too, such as it allows breeders to show their stock.
