Showing Canes

I currently use a horn handle hunting whip, without a thong, when showing, which is mainly because its what I have to hand and I tend to do the show hunter classes.

With smaller children I think that a plain leather cane is the best option, when off the lead rein. Children on the lead rein don’t carry a cane, it is carried by the leader. Though on show hunter ponies and mountain and moorland ponies a small hunting whip can look very smart.

Canes with a silver top and bottom are used when leading and in the riding horse and hack classes. They are also sometimes used by older children, 138cm+, in the show pony classes.
